Strategic alignment of Mission, Vision and ValuesA medium-sized rapidly expanding organisation had grown to such a size that they needed to establish a Mission, Vision and Values quickly so that there was consistency within the organisation regarding its purpose, goals and culture. New staff were joining all the time and smaller organisations were continuously being acquired; therefore it was vital that the brand and culture appeared consistent. As entrepreneurs, the directors were accustomed to making decisions quickly and acting on them. This practice had made their business successful; however, they were aware that due to such rapid growth, more stability and consistency were required. Therefore Human Synergy was asked to help. A danger is that a Mission, Vision and Values statement can be created by a few and stuck on a wall, having little impact. The challenge is to integrate and embed them into an organisation so that they are understood, accepted and 'lived' on a daily basis by all staff, managers and leaders. Human Synergy worked with a group of key stakeholders within the business to develop a mission, vision and set of values which reflected what the organisation was about, its aspirations and the expectations it had of its staff, also what customers could expect from staff in terms of the service they received. The draft mission, vision and values were shown and explained to staff, who were encouraged to give feedback. Thus the whole organisation was involved and staff became engaged, ensuring that the mission, vision and values would become integrated within the organisation. Coaching of one of the directors took place alongside the team development. The organisation now has plans to integrate these fully within the daily systems and processes of the organisation such as the appraisal system, customer satisfaction survey and team meetings. These actions will ensure that the mission, vision and values are embedded in all aspects of the company. |
